19-year-old drowns in Coleman Park pond

At approximately 12:55 a.m. on Friday, May 5, the body of James Riley Wallace, 19, was recovered from the pond at Coleman Park by members of the Longview Fire Department’s Water Rescue team.

Police and fire officials searched for Wallace late Thursday night and early Friday with boats and a helicopter after receiving a call about a possible drowning about 8 p.m.

Police Chief Buddy Hill said Wallace a group of friends were at the pond at Coleman Park when Wallace reportedly went for a swim. As he neared the middle, he struggled to stay on the surface and went under and did not come back up.

Although no foul play is suspected, Justice of the Peace Milton Adams conducted an inquest and had ordered an autopsy, which is standard procedure in unattended deaths.
