TVCC wins Play 4Kay division for fifth straight year

Press release

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund has announced the top fundraisers in each division for the 2018 Play4Kay initiative. For a fifth straight year, Trinity Valley Community College has won the Junior College Division.

TVCC raised $6,000 this year, according to assistant athletic director Jeremy Richardson.

“We are proud of the support we again received in our annual fundraising effort for this cause,” said TVCC vice president of student services/athletic director Dr. Jay Kinzer. “We would like to thank our athletics staff, administration, faculty, staff, students and fans for joining us in our efforts.”

Play4Kay is the grassroots fundraising initiative of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was started by the late Hall of Fame Coach Kay Yow, who believed it was a blessing that out of her fight against cancer she could create a fund to help others. The 501 (3) (c) mission is to raise money for All women’s cancer research and serve the underserved.

The schools that raised the most funds in each division were recognized in Columbus, Ohio this past weekend at the women’s Final Four and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund’s Wow4Yow event.

The 2018 Play4Kay winners were:

  • Division I BCS: NC State University (Raleigh, NC)
  • Division I Non-BCS: Illinois State University (Bloomington-Normal, IL)
  • Division II: Lincoln Memorial University (Harrogate, TN)
  • Division III: Moravian College (Bethlehem, PA)
  • NAIA: Faulkner University (Montgomery, AL)
  • Junior College/Community College: Trinity Valley Community College (Athens, TX)
  • K-12: Akin Elementary School (Hale Center, TX)

“Play4Kay was Coach Kay Yow’s vision. She saw this initiative as a way to unite the country in support of all women battling cancer. She wanted to use her platform to give strength to others. Due to the amazing support of teams from communities big and small, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has been able to award $5.63 million on behalf of women’s basketball in the fight against all women’s cancers,” said Stephanie Glance, CEO of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. “We are so appreciative of the ongoing support from our 2018 national winners and all of our participating schools. Funding from Play4Kay is making a difference and directly impacting the lives of others.”
