It’s time to get your groove on – for credit.

For the first time, Trinity Valley Community College will offer a Hip Hop dance class beginning in the Spring 2015 semester. The class will be held Monday evenings from 6-8 p.m. and will be taught by Sarah Cadungug, assistant choreographer for the TVCC Cardettes.

This first class is being offered for males only. Cadungug said she and Cardette Director Darla Mansfield began talking about offering a Hip Hop class last spring when they noticed a large number of male dancing groups at a competition attended by TVCC’s Showgirls.

Cadungug said she and Mansfield are hoping to expand the course to female dancers in subsequent semesters.

Dance experience is not required, but those with minimal dance or cheer experience are preferred. Students will need to be willing to get out of their comfort zone, as they will be required to dance. The class will teach students various hip hop moves, techniques and tricks geared for male strength and agility. As part of the course, students will be asked to participate in the annual Cardette Spring Show. Other exhibition performances may also be offered through the semester.

“I just think it’s an awesome opportunity for guys – definitely something different,” Cadungug said. “This class will be a way to bring together more students at the college, because the students of this class will have the performance opportunity for our Spring Show. This is the beginning of something that can be really good.”
