1-7-15 Cardette winter workshopsBy Jayson Larson/TVCC Public Information

The Trinity Valley Community College Cardettes are kicking off 2015 with a series of workshops aimed at enhancing the skills of area dancers and performers.

The first of three Collegiate Dance Workshops is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 31, with subsequent workshops to be held on Saturday, March 7, and Friday, April 3. The workshop is for dancers age 15 and older. Each session will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. in the Student Union Building on the TVCC Athens campus. Cost of each workshop is $20.

The workshop offers attendees a chance to learn from experienced dancers. The two-and-a-half hours of instruction will include collegiate-level tricks, technique tools and a dance combination lesson from current Assistant Cardette Choreographer Sarah Cadungug and current Cardettes. The workshop will conclude with a 20-minute tour of the TVCC campus. Dance level will primarily be intermediate to advanced. Two to three years of dance experience is recommended in order to give all dancers proper time and individual instruction.

The March 7 date is a technical workshop only that will focus on skills and technical elements that are required to become a Cardette. The April 3 workshop is also an opportunity for graduating seniors to audition early for the 2015-16 Cardette dance team. Those who want to audition will perform a dance taught at the workshop that day. Anyone interested in auditioning must register online or send in an application packet by March 27, 2015. To reserve a spot, visit www.tvcc.edu/Cardettes for details. Online registration is $20 per dancer and will close on April 2, 2015. Walk-ups are welcome at the door if space is available for $25 per dancer.

The Cardettes will reach out to younger dancers when they host a Middle School Dance Workshop for dancers age 12 to 15. The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28, from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Union Building. Dance level will primarily be beginner to intermediate and is geared toward dance, cheer and gymnastic backgrounds. Cost is $20, with registration being offered online now through Feb. 27. Walk-ups will be welcome on the day of the workshop for $25 if space is available.

All workshops are fund-raisers for Cardette events. For more information, call 903-670-2641 or 903-675-6225.
