Sports Notes: Lady Cards ready to go in Utah

The Lady Cardinals are in St. George, Utah, waiting for the start of the 2013 NJCAA National Softball Tournament. The 16-team, double-elimination event begins Wednesday and runs through Saturday.

Seedings and pairings for the tournament were announced Sunday. Coach Ashley Johnston’s squad (33-25), at the tournament for the first time in school history, drew the No. 13 seed. They will play fourth-seeded Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (42-9) at 5 p.m. (CDT) Wednesday.

The Lady Cardinals will play the winner/loser of the Pima Community College vs. Paris Junior College game. Pima (46-17) is the No. 5 seed and Paris (36-17), which defeated the Lady Cardinals for the Region XIV title, is the No. 12 seed.

With a win against NEO, the Lady Cardinals would play at 6 p.m. (CDT) Thursday. With a loss, they would play at 3:30 (CDT) Thursday.
