Sheriff’s Office makes multiple arrests for meth

Press release

ATHENS — An Athens man and woman were caught in an early-morning drug raid, and another duo was arrested yesterday afternoon in Mabank – all for possession of methamphetamines – by Henderson County Botie Hillhouse’s Narcotics Investigators.

Gregory Wayne Cantrell, 41, and Ashley Dawn Mauldin, 33, both of Athens were captured at a residence in the 200 block of North Lane Avenue at about 3:40 a.m.

They were taken to the Henderson County Jail after Narcotics Investigators Kenneth Slaton and Wayne Nutt obtained a search warrant from Henderson County Court at Law Judge Scott Williams.

The Sheriff’s team – including Investigator Gabriel Shue and Deputies Matt Jistel and John Haverly – discovered the pair with the illegal drugs during the raid in the wee hours of the morning.

Earlier Wednesday, James Daniel Stewart, 56 of Kemp and Shelia Michelle Simpson, 49 of Mabank were both taken to the Henderson County Jail, also for possession of the illegal drug.

Hillhouse said Narcotic Investigators Nutt and Slaton gathered enough information to warrant the raid at a residence in the 100 block of Indian Harbor Drive in that Mabank subdivision near Cedar Creek Lake.

“Citizens have long worried about the drug trade in this area, and we are listening to them and are working the problem,” Hillhouse said.

“Any user or dealer of illegal drugs there in particular is on notice: we are cracking down on your neighborhood and you could be next,” he said.
