Sheriff’s Office arrests two more on drug charges

Police BeatPress release

Drug dealers and users continue to be pulled into the Henderson County Jail, Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said Thursday as two more suspects were arrested.

Jerry Wayne Morris was arrested July 14 in Cherokee Shores after a traffic stop was conducted and he was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamines.

On Wednesday, July 13, Investigator Kay Langford and Investigator Brad Beddingfield arrested Tommy Joe Walker on Hwy 31 West in Athens. He too was charged with possession of suspected methamphetamines.

“We’ve conducted house raids in the middle of the night, day-long stake outs, stops by the roadside, and all that is leading to arrests in the campaign against illegal drugs,” Hillhouse said.

Since taking office at the beginning of June, 20 drug users or dealers have been arrested.

“And it will not stop until those folks realize they need to take their illegal business elsewhere,” he said. “Because the simple fact is I will not tolerate illegal drugs in any amount, large or small, in my County.”

  1. i would like to thank sheriff Hillhouse for the amazing job he is doing I love reading about the drugs being taken off our streets. Thank you to all our hard working deputy’s and police.

  2. We had a wonderful waterfront lake home at Cedar Creek Lake, in Oak Harbor off Welch Road, for over 30 years — it was a peaceful setting with a friendly group of neighbors, until suddenly the off-water places became infested with drug dealers who started renting the vacant homes/trailers and began manufacturing drugs. When I’d tell someone we lived in Oak Harbor, they’d say, “Oh, you mean Drug Harbor!” ….. we sold out in 2006, and I really appreciate hearing about the clean up around the lake — wish we’d had the current Sheriff back then. Keep up the wonderful work !!!!!

  3. Absolutely amazing to have a sheriff who will attack from either end. For many years everyone were after the “Big People” in the illegal drug trade, and paid little mind to the users. Fact is, if you work at eliminating the market, AND the people turning a profit, it becomes a full attempt at eradicating drug use and the crimes that come with it. Not a ‘meth head’, myself but recovering from other addictions, it is clear to me that Our Sheriff is not so much as Arresting people, as he is RESCUING THEM.

  4. Whats gonna happen to the “drug task force” when all the drugs are gone? Surly boswell aint gonnna be out a job..

  5. Statistics say that maybe 1-2 out of the past 25-30 users arrested will actually quit using and find a new way of life. All of the tax money you are blowing to arrest people whose addictions are more powerful than your brick walls, you should consider finding a genuine remedy for this horrendous epidemic. Our state funded rehabs are a joke, they attempt to teach self control and offer mental tools to assist in the fight an addicts very own mind…but the addiction has control. It’s sad that our county can only judge and stereotype, their own preset judgements are corrupt by a lack of understanding. They are big bad cops and feel it their duty to ruin lives of people that barely understand why they can not stop finding ways and means. Maybe someone will have the brain capacity to fix our system. Prison is for murders and pedifiles. There sending people back time and time again for something that is bigger than they are. God be with us all
