Presentation: Where did our food come from?

By Lydia Holley/Special to HCN

Master Gardener Bob Erickson will present “Where Did Our Food Come From?” on Tuesday, March 20, 5:30 p.m., Clint W. Murchison Memorial Library, 121 S. Prairieville, Athens. Erickson’s presentation covers the ways and means of how our food has evolved and become more widely available. This presentation is a part of Henderson County Master Gardener’s ‘Learn at the Library’ series, presented on the third Tuesday of each month. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Although we now go to the grocery store to choose from a smorgasbord of food from many countries, this has not always been the case. Many developments in transportation and hybridization occurred for this to happen. After hearing this presentation, you will look at food a little differently knowing all that had to occur for us to have such a variety of foods available.

Come hear how the food our ancestors ate changed, and why. Ride along as Erickson explains the different modes of transporting food. After this presentation, you may look at your plate of food as a minor miracle which took decades to occur. This presentation was originally scheduled for January 16, but was rescheduled due to inclement weather. You will not want to miss this treat.
