Man arrested on drug charges in Seven Points

Henderson County Deputies were looking Sunday afternoon for a woman wanted on outstanding warrants when they found and arrested a man with methamphetamines and several pipes used to smoke illegal drugs.

“Our team is always on the lookout for those carrying, using or selling illegal drugs and in this case, their solid work put one in jail,” Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said.

County jail passes state inspection

The Texas Commission on Jail Standards inspected and approved of the operation of the Henderson County Jail following its recent unannounced review late last week.

“These inspectors are tough,” Hillhouse said. “The professionalism of our staff, the way they conduct themselves year round and their consistency keeps this facility in compliance.

“I thank each of the supervisors, jailers and entire staff for their fine work that keeps this operation running smoothly,” he said.

TVCC men beat Paris, lead conference

MEN’S BASKETBALL

The seventh-ranked Cardinals picked the perfect time for a complete-game performance.

The Region XIV Conference-leading Cardinals played shutdown defense en route to a 71-44 win on the road Saturday against the Paris Junior College Dragons, avenging an earlier 96-82 Cardinal Gym loss.

As a result of the win, the Cardinals upped their season mark to 22-3 and conference record to 13-1, keeping them two games clear of Tyler and three of Paris in the East Zone of the conference.

AHS choir qualifies several for state contest

Athens High School choir students made a strong showing at the Region 21 UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest Feb. 2 in Tyler. All 26 vocalists received strong marks from judges, with 10 qualifying for the State Solo and Ensemble Contest in May. “They worked outside of class time to prepare songs to perform from memory for the judges,” said Choir Director Bridget Scott. “I am so proud of the hard work they put in to earn excellent and superior ratings.” Pictured (back row, from left) are students who received a rating of “excellent.” They are Yahir Miranda, Ashley Moreno, Kaitlyn Pair, Hannah Barber, Elizabeth Harkins, Cooper Rolison and (middle row, far left) Irais Hernandez.
