Obituary: Sammie Brasher

Sammie Brasher, 87 Athens passed away peacefully Tuesday November 6, 2018 at her home in Athens. Sammie was born February 10, 1931 in Aspermont, Texas to the late George Samuel and Amelia Alene Sandlin Hester. She was a resident in Athens since 1965 and was a member of West Athens Baptist Church. She was a seamstress for many years at Vassarette here in Athens. She was a 1992 graduate of Henderson County Junior College where she earned her Associate of Art degree. She spent 20 years with Athens Independent School District as a substitute teacher which she truly loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Kenneth Paxton, daughter; Patti Ellen Wedel, great-granddaughter; Lexie Crawford.

Survivors include her son; Kenneth Wayne and wife Amanda, daughter; Karen Annette and husband Andy, son-in-law; Bill Wedel, grandchildren; Janet Crawford and husband Brandon, April Nicholson and husband Matt, Brian Brasher and wife Christy, Azure Garza, Drew Garza and wife Lenzie, Jonathan Bounds and husband Byron, Matthew Wedel and Liz Haney, great-grandchildren; Paxton, Lucas and Samantha Nicodemus, Justin and Brianna Crawford, Andrea Paup, Clay White, Bristol Eckert, Mitchell, Nathan, Kaden and Silvana Nicholson, Kara Hackney, Emily and Aaron Utley, Adam and Abigail Brasher, great-great-grandchildren; Carolyne and Cozette Nicholson.

Visitation will be held at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Friday evening November 9, 2018 from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M.
