Obituary: Peggy Hickman

Hickman PeggyFuneral services for Peggy Hickman, 80, of Athens are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015 at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Athens, Texas with Bro. Robbie Wynn officiating. Graveside services will be held later at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery in Austin, Texas.

Mrs. Hickman went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, in Athens with her husband and family by her side.

Peggy Elaine Robertson Hickman was born May 5, 1935 the daughter of Henry Dow Robertson and Edna Thompson Robertson. Peggy grew up in Montalba, Texas and then moved to Austin with her mother when she was 15 after her father passed. After she graduated from Austin High School in 1953 she worked at Southwestern Bell until 1960 and was a longtime West Lake Hills resident. She owned and operated Walton’s Florist and Nursery with her late husband Tom R. Walton from 1969 to 2001. Tom and Peggy met in 1949, married in 1954, and were married until his death in 2005. Peggy’s greatest joy in life was being the best mother she could be to her daughter Karen and her son Tom Jr.

On Dec. 2, 2006 she married W.A Hickman a longtime childhood friend and moved to Athens, Texas where they were members of the Fellowship Baptist Church and the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class. Later in life she enjoyed traveling andfeeding her birds and animals. She also loved spending countless hours in her greenhouse in the back of their home with her plants. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all she knew and loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Tom R. Walton and her brother Edwin “Pete” Robertson.

She is survived by her loving husband W.A. Hickman of Athens; daughter Karen Walton Kofnovec and husband Gary of Austin; son Tom R. Walton, Jr. of Austin; step-daughters, Rhonda Coggin and husband Carl of Andrews, Cheryl Conklin and husband Doug of Edmond, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Jackie Robertson of Athens; two grandchildren, Cole Kofnovec, Kristina Kofnovec; three step-grandchildren, Travis Conklin, Carrie Herring, Trevor Conklin and many other family members and wonderful friends.

Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens, Texas.
