Funeral services for Olly Bass, 97, of Athens are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Sand Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Erick Graham officiating. Interment will follow at Shelby Chapel Cemetery in Athens.
Olly G. Bass passed away on July 11, 2018 in Athens.
Olly Gude Bass Jr. was born October 9, 1920 in Athens, Texas the son of Olly G. Bass Sr. and Etta Hawkins Bass. He was a member of Sand Springs Baptist Church. Olly proudly served in the Army Air Corps from December 22, 1942 to March 8, 1946 and was honorably discharged as a SGT. He worked as a construction inspector for TX DOT for over 27 years, enjoyed farming (cattle) and gardening, especially growing tomatoes, corn, and peas. Grandad loved his children, grandchildren and will be missed by many.
Olly is preceded by his parents; his loving wife Elizabeth Virginia Hodge Bass; three sisters, Eula Jewel, Lorena Matranga, Bessie Crane; two brothers, Richard Bass, Ralph Bass and one great-grandson Noah Bass.
He is survived by his daughter Peggy Pearson and husband Bruce Moore of San Diego; son Larry O. Bass and wife Wanda of Athens; three grandchildren, Gary D. Bass, David L. Bass and wife Laural, Joy Bass Rainwater and husband Michael and three great-grandchildren, Michaela Bass, Joshua Bass, and Elizabeth Bass.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M., Monday, July 16, 2018 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.
Serving as pallbearers: Gary Bass, David Bass, Michael Rainwater, Bruce Moore, Karry Harris and Tony Loicao. Honorary pallbearers: Travis Mason, Bill Valentine, John Brungot, Joe Graham and Bill Forgey.
