Obituary: Olan Wilkins

Wilkins, OlanFuneral services for Olan Wilkins, 70, of Athens will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Curtis Chandler officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Mr. Wilkins passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2016.

Olan Wilkins was born on February 11, 1946 in Kerens, TX, son of Joe Wilkins and Nasil Roper Wilkins. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0345 in Athens and served in the United States Marines during Vietnam. Olan enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, and was a very hard worker. He loved his family and loved being a grandpa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Hazel Lecius.

He is survived by his wife, Lavada Wilkins of Athens; children, Bryan Wilkins and wife Tammy of Murchison, Phyllis Maieritsch and husband Pete of Athens, Debbie Nichols and husband Larry of Center Point, Michael Pugh and wife Debbie of Murchison, and Sandy Schnieder of Waco; brothers, Aalon Wilkins and wife Wanda of Carthage, and Bobby Wilkins and wife Wanda of Kerens; five grandchildren, Alexus Abbott, Avery Abbott, Kinley Dyer, Ada Wilkins and Phoenix Maieritsch; and numerous step grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 20, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
