Funeral services for Larry Kenneth Gideon, 72, of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013 at Fellowship Baptist Church of Athens with Mike Dean and C.O. Jackson, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Rome Cemetery. He passed away Monday evening in Tyler, Texas.

Larry was born on March 18, 1940 in Athens to Lester Horace and Mattie Sue Hopson Gideon and was a lifelong resident of Henderson County. He attended school in Athens and was a member of the graduating class of 1958. He graduated with an Associate’s Degree from Henderson County Junior College in 1960 and also attended Stephen F. Austin University. He was united in marriage with Janet Trammell on Jan. 30, 1965.

Larry was employed in electrical and plumbing sales for his entire career and had worked for Texas Wholesale, National Supply and Spencer’s Hardware Store. He will be remembered as a tireless and honest man, with a great sense of humor, who provided well for his family. He loved to travel and spend time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a long time member of the Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was known as a godly man whose Christian influence touched those around him, and there is peace and comfort knowing that he is with his Heavenly Father. He was a dearly loved husband, father, G-Pa, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Billy Mack Gideon.

Larry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janet Trammell Gideon of Athens; son Greg Gideon and wife Alisa of Rockwall; daughter Julie Holt and husband Kelly of Mabank; sister Barbara McCown and husband Steve of Spring; grandchildren Garrett Gideon, Abby Gideon, Cy Holt, and Case Holt.

Pallbearers include Bobby Cooper, Kelly Smith, Adron Neill, Doyle Trammell, Garrett Gideon and Kelly Holt.

The family will receive visitors at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9.
