Obituary: Kenneth James Hayes

Funeral Services for Kenneth Hayes, 60, of Malakoff are scheduled for 2:30 p.m., Sunday, November 11, 2018 at First Baptist Church Malakoff with Bro. Brian Berry officiating. Interment will follow at Post Oak Cemetery near Malakoff.

Kenneth Hayes passed away on November 6, 2018 in Malakoff.

Kenneth James Hayes was born August 9, 1958 in Dallas, Texas the son of Willie Kermitt Hayes and Olene Ashton Hayes Thomas. He graduated from HCJC, worked for Texas Utilities Mining Co. in Fairfield for over 25 years and then began his career as a home builder for Hayes & Company Custom Home Building in Henderson County for many years. Ken was a member of the First Baptist Church in Malakoff, active in his community and served Henderson County as Commissioner. He was a board member of the National Soil and Water Conservation Board and President of Post Oak Cemetery. He had a passion for animals; working on his cow/calf operation and especially riding his mule, Ruth. Ken and his wife enjoyed trail riding with friends from four surrounding states. He truly cherished his family and friends and will be missed by each and every one of them.

He was preceded in death by his father Kermitt Hayes.

Ken is survived by his mother Olene Thomas of Malakoff; his loving wife Joyce Hayes of Malakoff; four children, Kristi Hayes Dalrymple and husband Jason of Malakoff, Josh Jamison and wife Kasey of Malakoff, Jenni Hayes Notley and husband Justin of Humble, Katie Hayes Hoover and husband Wesley of Malakoff; two brothers, Jimmy Keith “Bubba” Hayes of Athens, Karl Wayne Hayes of Rusk; one sister Pamela Kay Johnson of Malakoff; ten grandchildren, Megan, Allie, Kyler, Paige and Kinleigh Dalrymple, Loden and Lukas Jamison, Seth and Ady Notley and Jace Hoover.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Tim Stanfield, Kevin Hazelip, Dr. Dale Ehmer, Randy Sorenson, Wade McKinney, Terry Moore, Michael Radler, Stace Smith, Justin Mize and Chuck McHam. Honorary pallbearers will be Glen White, Kelly Holt, Joe Martinez (PCT 1). Kenny Cowley, Roy Mills, Danny Davis and Robert Mills.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
