He was born April 21, 1925 in Henderson County, Texas to the late Isaac Nelson Miller and the late Jessie Pearl Montgomery. He was the youngest of 9 siblings. He was married to Vema Ray Miller of Henderson County for 76 years until her death in 2017. Together they made their home in Seagoville, Texas where they raised 3 sons.
Ike was a USMC veteran who served in the Pacific Theater from 1944-1946 during World War II. After returning home he worked for Dallas Power and Light for 30 years before retiring early to enjoy golf and several trips to Las Vegas. As a young man, Ike enjoyed playing the banjo, bass fiddle and guitar in a band he formed with his brother Steve. He loved playing cards, dominoes, country music and had a soft spot for animals, particularly his dogs and the many cows he raised during his retirement.
He will be sadly missed by his three sons, Jerry, Steve, and Larry; two daughters-in-law, Barbara Miller and Novella Miller; sister-in-law Laverne Boyd; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family invites you to a visitation on Thursday evening September 27, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Athens City Cemetery.
