Obituary: Gerardo De La Fuente

Funeral Services for Gerardo De La Fuente, 19, of Athens are scheduled for 11:30 a.m., Monday, July 21, 2014 at St. Edwards Catholic Church with Father Pancreas officiating.  Interment will follow at Shelby Chapel Cemetery.

Gerardo went to be with his Savior on July 17, 2014 in Dallas, Texas after a three-year battle with Aplastic Anemia.

Gerardo De La Fuente was born October 3, 1994 in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, the son of Gerardo De La Fuente and Elvia Alvarez De La Fuente.  “Tito” was a member of the St. Edwards Catholic church and very active in the youth group.
He graduated Athens High School in 2013 and went on to TVCC to study nursing, his lifelong dream.  He was #17 on the Athens High School Soccer Team and truly loved the sport.  He was a loving son and brother and will be missed by many family and friends.

He is survived by his loving parents, Gerardo De La Fuente and Elvia Alvarez De La Fuente of Athens; two brothers, Raul and Naftali De La Fuente of Athens; one sister, Daisy De La Fuente of Athens; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.  

The family will visit with friends from 6-7 p.m., with the Rosary following at 7 p.m., Sunday, July 20, 2014 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.

Pallbearers will be the St. Edwards Catholic Church Youth Group.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the Athens High School Soccer Team.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Family of Athens, Texas.
