MALAKOFF – Funeral services for Floyd Ray Smith, Jr. of Malakoff are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 at First Baptist Church Malakoff with the Rev. Casey Perry officiating. Graveside services will follow at Malakoff Cemetery.

Mr. Smith went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Feb. 1, 2013. Floyd was born in Bryan, Texas on Nov. 10, 1924. His parents, Floyd R. and Elizabeth Loraine Lipscomb Smith, raised seven children, and Floyd was the youngest. Floyd was an honest and hard-working owner-operator in the heavy-duty commercial trucking industry for many years.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents; all six of his siblings; and his loving wife of 68 years, Lavone Smith.

He was a loving husband and father, and he is survived by his five children, Carolyn Collins of Tyler, Marilyn Quinn of Malakoff, Kenneth Smith and wife Billye of Pasadena, Davis Smith of Baytown, John W. Smith of Pasadena, Texas; 11 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

His eight grandsons will serve as pallbearers and his good friend, Jerry Stone, will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers the family would like for donations to be made to the Children’s Building Fund at First Baptist Malakoff: 220 W. Mitchum St., Malakoff, Texas 75148.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2013 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.
