Obituary: Floyd Mills

Mills, FloydFuneral services for Floyd Mills, 90 of Athens, will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Tim McGraw and Cliff McGraw officiating. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Lawnhaven Memorial Garden in San Angelo. Services are under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Mr. Mills went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 25, 2016.

Floyd Mills was born on August 17, 1925 in Weed, New Mexico, he and his twin, Lloyd, were the youngest of five boys. In 1938, he moved with his mother to Corpus Christi, Texas and from there to Rockport, Texas. Upon graduating from Rockport High School, he entered the US Marine Corps in 1943 serving over three years in the IV Marine Air Wing and was discharged in 1946. After spending the last year in Guam, He and his brother Lloyd were personal cooks for Brig. Gen Sanderson, 4th Marine Air Wing Commandant. In 1961, he organized Mills Construction Inc. in Atlanta, GA. He met Cecil B. Day, founder of Days Inns and was the contractor for the first Days Inns that were built. He married the love of his life Billie McNabb on June 1, 1962, whom passed in November of 2002. He retired in 1989, and moved to San Angelo, Texas. He was a member of the Eastern Hills Church of Christ in Athens and a member of the VFW in San Angelo, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife Billie; his parents; and brothers. Lloyd and D.S. Mills.

He is survived by his daughter Terri McGraw and husband Timothy of Athens, TX; brother Guy Mills of Blue Water, NM; grandchildren, Robyn McGraw of Athens, TX, Cliff McGraw and wife Emily of Athens, TX, and Molly Anderson and husband Thomas of Waco, TX; great grandchildren, Macy and Lola McGraw and many special nieces and nephews including Richard and Rex Mills.

Visitation will be held before the service on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 from 1-2 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
