Obituary: Connie Lynn Johnson

Connie copyServices for Connie Lynn Johnson, 57, of Mabank, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Gun Barrel City under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.

Connie, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, went to be with her Lord on March 2, 2015, in Mabank.

She was born on October 19, 1957, in Dallas, to Sybil and W.C. Carr.

Connie grew up in Dallas and Pittsburg before moving to Mabank during her teenage years. After marrying her high school sweetheart Jimmy Johnson, the two traveled around the world as a family in the U.S. Air Force. They and their four children spent time in several states, Germany and Portugal before returning home to the Mabank area in 1992.

For her entire life, Connie was an inspirational example of Christian love to those around her. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Gun Barrel City for more than 20 years.

She loved children and took any child who came across her path into her heart. In addition to her own four children, many of her children’s friends came to love her as their mother. As a Sunday school teacher and AWANA director, she was a loving influence to an entire generation.
When she wasn’t taking care of the young, she was caring for the elderly in her job as a home health aide. She showed compassion to each of her patients, and considered many of them family.

But the ones she loved most of all were her six grandchildren, and she was never happier than when she was spending time in her role as Grammy.
When she wasn’t taking care of others, she loved studying her Bible, painting and decorating her home.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Clinton Carr; sister, Bertha Murdock; and several grandparents and members of her husband’s family.

She is survived by her husband and the love of her life for more than 40 years, Jimmy Johnson of Mabank; children and spouses, Jennifer and Michael Hannigan of Athens, Jimmy Johnson II and fiancée Carla James of Terrell, Daniel and Season Johnson of Athens, and Christina and Keith Baldwin of Mabank; grandchildren, Sean and Aislynn Hannigan of Athens, Bethany and Malachi Baldwin of Mabank, and Michael and Brandon James of Terrell; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Melvin Nunley of Mt. Vernon; brother and sister-in-law, Clayton and Pamela Carr of Huntsville; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and other loved relatives.

Pallbearers will be Keith Baldwin, Johnathan Brown, Jesse Carr, Morgan Carr, Michael Hannigan, and Christopher Johnson.

Visitation is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home.
