Obituary: Bob Cook

Funeral services for Bob Cook, 92, of Athens will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens with Rev. Brian Waddell officiating. Interment following at 12:30 P.M. on Wednesday in the Tyler Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Cook passed away February 16, 2018 in Chandler, Texas.

Robert “Bob” Cook was born December 5, 1925 in Athens, Texas the son of Frank Cook and Brazoria Cantrell Cook. He joined the Army and served courageously during WWII at one point being a prisoner of war in a Nazi prison camp, before being Honorably discharged. He retired from Gould Battery after many years as the plant foreman. He was a member of the Carroll Springs United Methodist Church and enjoyed going to Sunday school. He loved farm work and riding the tractor. He was a loving father, brother and grandfather who will be missed by all he knew.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 35 years Wanda Cook; two brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include his children DeeAnne Adams and husband Tommy of Athens, Robert Darrell Cook and wife Marilee of Athens; one sister Jean Cook of Dania, Florida and five grandchildren, Joshua Adams, Courtney Adams, Cory Cunningham, Jamie Cunningham and Justin Cunningham.

The family would like to thank Chandler Nursing Center and Hospice Connection of Tyler for the love and care they showed Mr. Bob, AKA “Cookie.”

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

In lieu of Flowers the family would like donations to be made in his memory to the Carroll Springs Methodist Church Building fund. They asked that you please make sure building fund is listed in the memo area of your check.
