Billy Wayne Dowell, age 81, passed away on April 8, 2018 in Athens. He was born in Athens on January 6, 1937 to Orbie Ray and Katie Parrot Dowell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his dear wife, Nelda Dowell; his sons, David Lee Dowell, and Pete Dowell; his brother, Simmie Dowell; his nephew, Scott Kinnard.
He owned and operated Lone Star Electric Company in Athens for many years. After retiring from his business, he began working at TVCC in the maintenance department. Billy owned a 1956 Crown Victoria that he loved to work on as a hobby. He also enjoyed hunting, especially quail.
Survivors include, his son, Steve Dowell and wife Reba; daughter, Kim Corley and husband Mickey; his sister, Marie Brown and husband Billy Joe; his grandchildren, Scott Dowell, Katie Parnell and husband Kevin, Cody Corley, Chance Dowell, Billy Marc Dowell and wife Shena, Kristin Hinds and husband Eddy; also surviving are 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr funeral home. Graveside services will be Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 3 p.m. at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens. Arrangements by Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home of Athens.
