Meet and greet scheduled for new Athens City Manager

The City Council of the City of Athens is pleased to announce the hiring of Elizabeth Borstad as City Manager for the City of Athens. The City Council unanimously voted to approve the hiring on Monday, January 22, 2018.

The public is cordially invited to a “Meet and Greet” on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 from 4-6 p.m. at the East Texas Arboretum & Botanical Society Woman’s Building located at 1601 Patterson Road Athens, Texas 75751.

Ms. Borstad is a graduate of Clemson University and is a professional engineer. She and her husband Brad have two children Elena and Evelyn. In her free time, Ms. Borstad enjoys golfing and spending time with her family.

“I am honored to have been hired as City Manager for the City of Athens,” said Ms. Borstad. “I look forward to serving the citizens of Athens and meeting many of you at the upcoming ‘Meet and Greet.’”

In addition to hiring Ms. Borstad on January 22, 2018, the City of Athens honored outgoing Interim City Manager, Gary Whittle, and thanked him for his contributions to the City of Athens. Gary has worked with the City since November 2015. During his time with the City, Mr. Whittle has served as Interim Operations Manager to assist with utilities, Special Projects Manager, and most recently, Interim City Manager.
