Mark Carson indicted for Capital Murder of infant

Press release

The Henderson County Grand Jury returned an indictment for Capital Murder against 26-year-old Mark Carson for the death of a child under 10.
Carson is accused of intentionally or knowingly causing the death of his girlfriend’s 11-month-old baby “by a manner and means unknown to the Grand Jury.” He was arrested on January 25, 2018 after a three-month investigation into the death of the child.

Autopsy results indicated that the infant suffered blunt force injury to the head and neck, subdural hemorrhaging, along with contusions over the upper chest and right arm. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.

Based on interviews by Henderson County Sheriff investigators with the mother of the child and Carson, it was determined that Carson had been babysitting the boy on the day of his death, while the mother was at work.

Carson called 911 a little after 8 p.m. on October 21, 2017 to report a medical emergency with the child. First responders arrived and transported the infant to ETMC in Athens and then transferred him to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas where he was later declared deceased.

Upon indictment, bond was set at $2 million by 392nd District Judge Scott McKee, and he is scheduled for formal arraignment on June 6 in the 173rd District Court with Judge Dan Moore presiding.
