Press release

Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said a man is behind bars, charged with murder, after admitting to a late-night shooting that left a 24-year-old male dead.

Dennis Odell Metcalf admitted to shooting the victim after 11 p.m. Wednesday.

He surrendered to Sgt. Jeromey Rose and Deputy Noah Hickson of the Sheriff’s Office after the shooting in the 21000 block of Easy Street in the Forest Grove subdivision of Chandler.

The 24-year-old victim was from Murchison, and his name has not been released pending the ongoing investigation, Hillhouse said.

The sheriff said according to witnesses prior to the shooting there was no indication of an altercation between the two men and no immediate sign the two knew each other.

Neither man resides at the address where the shooting occurred.

Metcalf remains in custody, and bond has yet to be set.

The victim’s body was sent to Dallas for autopsy.

Major Bryan Tower and Investigator David Faught both of the Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Rangers and investigators from Henderson County District Attorney’s Office are involved in the case.

Hillhouse said his office will provide updates as the investigation continues.
