Man Arrested for Cherokee Shores Shooting

On Sunday, July 12, at approximately 8 p.m. Henderson County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Sergeant Matthew Jistel, Investigator Robert Powers, Chief Deputy Botie Hillhouse, and Payne Springs Police Officer Matthew responded to a gunshot victim at the Payne Springs Volunteer Fire Department.

Deputies arrived on scene, made contact with the victim and determined the victim had been shot multiple times. The victim drove himself to the fire department, according to  the PSVFD fire chief. The address of 221 Longhorn Road in the Cherokee Shores subdivision was identified as the location where the altercation occurred.

The victim was airlifted to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler Texas for medical treatment.

Deputies arrived at the address on Longhorn Road, but were initially unable to make contact with the suspect at the residence. Contact was made with the suspect by telephone and the suspect returned to the residence. Once the suspect returned to the residence, Deputies completed their investigation on the incident.

Rickey Murry from the Payne Springs area was arrested and booked into the Henderson County Jail for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon without further incident.

Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon is a Second Degree Felony and is punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Murry still remains in the Henderson County Jail awaiting arraignment.

  1. Please make sure everyone knows he drove himself to our station! We (no members) were involved. We provided basic life support measures and assisted in air lifting.
