That sound you heard in Malakoff Friday night was the Tiger offense exploding.

The Tigers finished the regular season at home with a 75-0 beatdown of visiting Elkhart to push their record to 9-1.

Malakoff football historian Benny Rogers said the Tigers set a school record for single-game scoring (previous high of 73) and have won 16 straight home games.

The Tigers are now on to the postseason for the 9th straight season which, not coincidentally, coincides with the nine years Coach Jamie Driskell has been in Malakoff. It looks like the Tigers will take on Rockdale (7-3) in bi-district action next week. I haven’t heard where yet.

I was going to hand out awards for the game, but the game was too lopsided to really do that … so here are some simple observations.

– The first half was the most dominating half of football I have ever seen. Malakoff scored on all eight of its possessions while Elkhart had the same number of first downs as turnovers, one each. Elkhart ended the game with two turnovers and two first downs.

– The guys who throw, catch and run with the football get all the headlines, but the offensive line and the defensive front seven controlled this game from start to finish.

– At one point in the first half, Malakoff scored touchdowns on three straight offensive plays.

– Malakoff had six touchdowns of over 39 yards.

– TVCC Offensive Coordinator Sherard Poteet was on the sidelines Friday night to watch Malakoff play.

– Judd Miller, Jaquaylon Hart, R.J. Carr and Dedric Davis all had multiple touchdowns.

– Ethan Snow had an interception and Jamicah Gregg had a scoop-and-score fumble return touchdown.
