The Malakoff City Council this week accepted the resignation of the police chief, Billy Mitchell.

Mitchell had been with the city since 2006. Before that, he was with the Ennis Police Department. In total, he was a police officer for more than 30 years.

Mitchell said he decided to leave the profession because of the issues facing police officers across the country.

He has a new job already set up on his own farm. He and his wife run Cackleberry Farm Casseroles To Go, making homemade meals for busy families. They are located at 6901 Highway 175 East, just east of the old Baxter store. You can give them a call at 903-677-0105.

Calls to Malakoff City Hall regarding a new police chief were directed to the city attorney. Calls to the city attorney were not returned.

  1. If he was like some of the officers nationwide, who are are crooks, liars, thieves, murderers and thieves, then good riddens to him. If he’s one of the good cops, I wish him well and hope he’s replaced by another good one. I can’t say I’ve ever met him. Only Robocop, who like soooo many other Malakoff residents, was stopped for something stupid, just so he could “check me out”. I guess they have to stop so many people per day. And Robocop will stop you for next to nothing. Even if he has to make up something.
This country and our community need to rid our police force of bad, over zealous cops. Ones that are used by the city to generate revenue. Ones that just want that pay raise or promotion. And replace them with police officers who realize they are public servants. That their job is to protect and serve their community. And also have enough common sense to realize that every stupid laws the politicians come up with, doesn’t have to be enforced. Like seat belts, easing through a stop sign with no one is coming, a few miles over the speed limit, not turning on your signal light when there’s no one to signal to….
