Monarch Utilities, a subsidiary of SouthWest Water Company, is collaborating with Make-A-Wish® North Texas to grant the wish of 8-year-old Magen from Eustace who has Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis. On Friday, July 24, at 6 p.m., Make-A-Wish® will host a party for Magen, her family and friends, and Monarch Utilities at Jalapeno Tree in Athens to celebrate the wish—to be a zoologist for a day at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska. Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis is a type of disorder that causes the body to overproduce Langerhans cells, which are white blood cells that help the body fight infection. Too many Langerhans cells can build up in certain parts of the body and form tumors or damage organs.

“SouthWest Water has granted wishes across Texas, however this one hits closest to home,” Terry Benton, director of operations, Texas Utilities East, SouthWest Water Company, said. “Magen happens to be the daughter of one of our employees, and when we heard about her wish, we gave Make-A-Wish a call right away.”

Magen’s mother, Carei, said, “We are very thankful for Make-A-Wish. You see your baby getting poked and prodded, missing out on things because of appointments or surgery or having anxiety because they see other sick children and even have friends that have passed away. But the look on their face, sparkle in their eyes and high pitched infectious laughter does a lot to heal not just the body but our minds as well.”

A girl who loves animals and nature, Magen is very excited to be a zoologist for a day and visit the Henry Doorly Zoo. Magen and her family will visit the Omaha zoo on Tuesday, July 28.

“The wish experience gives hope and encouragement not only for the child, but for loved ones who have the opportunity to see that child’s spirits lifted,” Scotty Landry, president & CEO of Make-A-Wish North Texas, said. “We would not be able to grant the wishes of children like Magen without the support of generous donors like Monarch Utilities.”
