PWC press release

The Pinnacle Women’s Club welcomed as speakers for their June meeting two charming and ambitious young ladies, Marisol Gallegos and Hannah Thai, who are recent graduates from Mabank High School. The pair described their experiences as co-founders of the Grader-Good Tutoring Program.  This program is a free, year-round, student-led tutoring service which has been available for the last two years at the Cedar Creek Lake Library.  These two young ladies initiated this service as a DECA project, which is a nationwide club for high school students that focuses on the development of entrepreneurial and management skills.  In order to achieve their program’s goals, they accepted advice from retired teachers at the library, prepared lesson plans and recruited other high school students to help as tutors for about two hours per week. In 2012, their program won 1st place in the district as a DECA Community Service Project.

The PWC members were delighted and amazed as these two young ladies described their pride in watching their young students thrive and even excel in their studies.

Marisol Gallegos is currently the local president of DECA. She plans on attending North Texas where she will major in Bilingual/Elementary Education with a minor in International Studies.

She said, “My hopes are to study abroad in foreign countries, such as Italy and China, and someday become a public speaker to troubled teens and young adults.”

Hannah Thai is the 2013 Mabank High School Valedictorian, and served as president of the local Beta Club, a service club that encourages achievement, character and service.  She plans to attend Yale University where she will major in Economics.  “My mission is to not only help struggling students, but to provide other high school students with a more direct method of serving and bettering our community,” she said.
