LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Vote yes for Mabank ISD bond

Letter to the Editor logoDear Editor,

A committee has been formed to identify all of the needs that MISD currently has. This committee will make recommendations on what will be addressed with new funds generated from the passing of the proposed $10 million bond on November 3rd. The committee is currently touring MISD campuses and will continue to do so within the next several weeks.

Our schools within the district have many needs which among them are:

  • The need for enhanced security for all students district wide
  • The need for updated and parking modifications
  • The need to increase classrooms so that new programs can be initiated
  • The need to properly handle the increased population of students with better facilities to handle these increases

Because the district has been a good steward of funds, they are able to restructure payment without any increase in taxes. According to Scott Adams, “no tax increase is needed to repay the increased amount of debt MISD is seeking due to the use of bond refunding savings (both current and past two refundings), along with using the current Debt Service Fund Balance to fund any balance needed above the tax rate levied (Debt Service Fund Balance can only be used for the payment of Bond Debt); and the current bonds will maintain a twenty year schedule with the new bonds at a 25 year schedule.”

For more information, please attend one of the upcoming Town Hall meetings that are scheduled:

  • Oct. 15th, Thursday – Tri-County Library, 7:00 pm
  • Oct. 22nd, Thursday – Gun Barrel City Town Hall Meeting, 6.30 pm
  • Oct. 27th, Tuesday – Cedar Creek Country Club, 6:00 pm

REMEMBER TO VOTE YES ON NOVEMBER 3rd
