Lady Cards, Cardinals both roll to weekend victories

The sixth-ranked Lady Cards used a big second half to log a 71-52 win on the road Saturday against Bossier Parish in their 2018 debut.

Leading 29-27 at the half. The Lady Cards outscored Bossier Parish 42-25 in the second half to improve to 14-1 overall and 4-1 in Region XIV Conference.

Michal Miller netted 18 points to lead four Lady Cards in double-digit scoring. Rodrea Echols had 17, Mercedes Brooks 12 and Tyasia Moore 10. Moore also had a team-high 12 rebounds.

The Lady Cards are scheduled to be on the road this week, traveling Wednesday to Carthage to take on Panola in a 5:30 p.m. start and going Saturday to Lufkin to play Angelina. Game time is 4 p.m.

The Lady Cards are scheduled to return home on Wednesday, Jan. 17, to take on Coastal Bend. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Led by the triple-double performances of Wendell Mitchell and Jaime Echenique, the Cardinals rolled to a 107-73 road win Friday night against Jacksonville College.

Mitchell poured in 27 points and had 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Echenique had 18 points, 14 rebounds and 13 blocked shots.

Damari Parris and Lorenzo Phillips also scored in double figures with 21 and 13, respectively.

The Cardinals had the game in hand at halftime with a 48-33 lead.

The Cardinals (13-2, 4-0) are scheduled to play at home tonight against Lee. Tipoff is 7 p.m.

Wednesday, the Cardinals travel to Brenham to play Blinn at 7:30 p.m. They will be at home against Saturday to go against San Jacinto in a 4 p.m. start.
