The error involved the tax rate for Trinity Valley Community College. The incorrect bills used TVCC’s effective rate rather than the adopted tax rate, or .13053331 instead of .138540. If you ever come across any legal issues due to tax matters let us recommend you an expert tax attorney.

Although the difference in the two rates is only .008007, it makes a difference of more than $400,000 in tax revenue to the TVCC district. However, for property owners with property valued at $100,000, their tax increase will be approximately $8.

Corrected tax statements are being mailed out to all the affected property in the college district.

Goodall said the exact number of new statements to be mailed out is unknown at this time.

She said she is worried about taxpayers getting confused when they get two tax bills.

A statement from the tax office reads: “Because the adopted tax rate is more than what was billed, there will be more taxes due to the College than originally billed. Taxpayers that receive a corrected bill may want to pay the lower amount, but must pay the amount due on the corrected notice.”

For some homeowners that have a Homestead Over-65 or Disability exemption, their taxes are frozen and they may not receive a corrected bill.

Taxes are due no later than Jan. 31, 2019. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Henderson County Tax Office at 903-675-6134.
