GBC Police Report Multiple Drug Arrests

The Gun Barrel City Police Department today announced the following drug arrests.

On March 1 at approximately 2 a.m., Officer Zachary Kennedy of the Gun Barrel City Police Department stopped a vehicle leaving the Best Western Inn in Gun Barrel City for a traffic violation. Information had been received regarding narcotics trafficking at the Best Western Inn. Upon stopping the vehicle Kennedy made contact with the driver, identified as Richard Garcia 26 yoa Quinlan Texas, who advised Kennedy that he had a suspended drivers license. Kennedy also identified the passengers as Keith Merritt, 42, Gun Barrel City and Willie Brown, 29, Scurry. During the stop Kennedy developed probable cause to believe one or more of the occupants was under the influence of methamphetamine. Kennedy conducted a search of the vehicle and located approximately 8 grams of methamphetamine that was linked to Brown, along with a .25 caliber handgun. Brown was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance pg-1 4g

On Feb. 26 at approximately 9:30 p.m., Sergeant Patrick Johnson was dispatched to the Woodwilks Subdivision in reference to a stolen vehicle. Johnson met with the victim who stated that a Steven Ray Smith, 31, Gun Barrel City, had taken their 1997 Ford Explorer without their consent. Johnson took the information and completed a report. At approximately 10:30 p.m. Johnson located the vehicle in the 1300 block of West Main Street. Johnson found Smith in possession of the vehicle and also found Smith to have a felony warrant from the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Department. Smith was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and operating a vehicle under the influence. Smith was placed under arrest and transported to the Gun Barrel City Jail where he was booked in for the warrant, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Marijuana Less Than 2 Ounces, Possession of a Controlled Substance Pg-1 Less Than 1 Gram and Driving While Intoxicated.

On Feb. 25 at approximately 9 p.m., Sergeant Patrick Johnson and Officer Gabriel Shue of the Gun Barrel City Police Department were alerted to narcotic activity at the American Inn Suites, located at 2916 West Main Street. The caller advised that someone living at the motel had attempted to sell them narcotics. Officers travelled to that location and made contact with a subject identified as Adam Deleon, 36, who lives on location and acts as the manager, and who was also described as the suspect by the caller. Officers informed Deleon of the reason for their presence and began their investigation with his presence and consent. A subsequent search of Deleon’s room revealed numerous items of drug paraphernalia and two baggies containing suspected methamphetamine. Deleon was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance pg-1 Less Than 1 Gram and transported to the Gun Barrel City Jail.
