GBC Chase Ends In Arrest

On May 16, Officer Bird responded to the Dollar General Store in regards to a shoplifting incident. Bird viewed video showing the suspect and his vehicle.

Bird located the vehicle a short while later as it turned onto Southland Drive from West Main Street. Bird attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver fled in the vehicle. Bird pursued the vehicle as it fled back onto Main Street and turned onto Legendary Lane. Officers pursued the vehicle as it entered into the Eastwood Island Subdivision.

The suspect, identified as James Scott Shults, 42, of San Antonio, then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot on Seaside Drive. Shults was apprehended a short while later and taken into custody without further incident.

Shults was charged with Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle, Felony Theft, Evading Arrest on Foot and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, due to the items of drug paraphernalia located inside the vehicle. Shults was transported to the Gun Barrel City Jail where he was booked in without incident.
