A 2-month-old Gun Barrel City baby was safe Tuesday evening after an abduction scare.

Police are still searching for 39-year-old Jimmy Wilson, who took the baby from her mother, who is also his girlfriend. GBC Police Chief Damon Boswell said it has not been definitively proven that Wilson is the baby’s father.

According to reports, Wilson and the mother were arguing this evening. Wilson allegedly took the baby and left on foot while the mother called police.

Boswell said police thought they had Wilson contained in Willowwood, but he managed to get a ride.

Gun Barrel City activated its emergency alert system, broadcasting across telephone, text and Facebook, letting residents know of the emergency. Henderson County Now picked up the alert and shared it across our network. Boswell said there was no immediate Amber Alert because police did not have any information on Wilson’s vehicle.

Wilson reportedly dropped the baby off with his parents in Athens around 7:10 p.m., less than an hour after the GBC alert, and then left.

Boswell said Wilson’s parents took the child to the Athens Police Department.
