Press release

Members of the Cedar Creek Lake Kiwanis Club recently returned from the 99th Annual Texas–Oklahoma District Convention held in Abilene, Texas. The following members attended Marty Mullins, Allison Greenville, and DeAnna Browning. The same served as voting delegates.

The club was recognized in the top 8 in the District for their Club Signature Project. A Signature Project is one by which the club is known in the community. It is recurring, enhances the Kiwanis brand and demonstrates significant impact on the community in terms of funds raised or children served, strengthens membership and partnership opportunities.

The club’s Signature Project is Project School Bell. Each October the club partners with Eustace, Tool and Trinidad ISD and help provide clothing for underprivileged children. The school counselors pre-select the child and the children are brought to the Gun Barrel City Walmart and club members are paired up with a child and assist the child with picking out clothes and shoes. The club spends a $100 per child. The club assisted 53 children in 2016.

Also, the club was recognized in the top 10 in the District on collecting “K” Dollars for the Eliminate Project. Each club was asked to bring dollar bills with a “K” Federal Reserve mark to convention. Kiwanis International and UNICEF have teamed up to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus-a deadly disease that steals the lives of nearly 34,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year. Tetanus is a painful and deadly disease, causing extreme sensitivity to light, sound and contact-even preventing the comfort of a mother’s touch.

The conference ended with the members attending the Governors Banquet on Saturday night. Marty Mullins was installed as Lt. Governor for District 26 Region 7.

If you are interested in joining Cedar Creek Lake Kiwanis meets the 1st, 3rd and 4th Wednesday of each month at Hector’s in Gun Barrel City at noon.
