I’m not member of Rotary. My son Doug represents our companies in that fine organization. But sometimes I just up and go anyhow, and so far they have never run me off. I like to pretend it is just to take somebody’s picture, and put it on my Around the Town Facebook page, but actually it is just because I’m nosy, and they are a great bunch of folks I like to hang around with when possible.

Recently the speaker was the new Baptist preacher, Jody Jones. He talked about how he became a preacher—something he didn’t expect to do, and about the route he took to get here. He started in out in Cleburne and his last church was in Copperas Cove where most of his congregation consisted of military people. He and his wife Monica have two sons, Jared, who is married, Taylor who is engaged, and a daughter, Alexis who is still in high school. You can tell he really loves and is proud of his family. Severe Weather headed toward Henderson County

Henderson County is currently under a Tornado Watch until 7 p.m. 

Here is a severe weather briefing from the National Weather Service for today. 

While we are always aware of the dangers of severe weather here, the events yesterday in Oklahoma have many people on edge as storm cells approach the county.

I spoke with Henderson County Emergency Management Coordinator Joy Kimbrough regarding today’s weather, and she said that the likely window for the most severe weather in Henderson County was between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

She said that was just an estimate, however, based on current weather models.

Saturday, May 18, the Kiwanis Club of Athens, Henderson County 4-H Council and Troop 11 Life Scout Justin Jones is teaming up with area businesses to make improvements to Kiwanis Park located off Prairieville Street in Athens.

Members of the Kiwanis Club of Athens will be on-hand giving-a-hand to the youth in the community who have made the park a priority for their community and volunteer service improvements.
