Services for Sammie Virginia Houk, 89, of Mabank are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at First Assembly of God in Malakoff. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at St. Paul Cemetery in Mansfield, Texas.

Mrs. Houk passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 7:45 a.m.

Born in Leflore, Okla., she moved as a young girl to the North Texas area where she met the love of her life, Carl, in Dallas. Carl and Virginia were married in 1940, members of the greatest generation. They were stationed in Southern California during World War II and relocated to Fort Worth, where they raised their family. Always striving to better herself, Virginia completed business school and received many college certificates. She retired after 17 years from General Dynamics. She and Carl spent the last 25 years of their life in the home they built at Cedar Creek Lake. All who knew her remember her complete devotion to her family, love of animals and spending time with family and friends.

 

She is survived by her faithful and loving husband of 73 years, Carl David Houk. She is also survived by three daughters, Judy Ward of Mabank, Jan Ray of Arlington, and Lori Zurita of Wylie; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased in death by four brothers and sisters, a great-granddaughter and a great-grandson.

They are members of the First Assembly of God in Malakoff and their lives were guided and enriched by their continual walk with their Lord.

Graveside services for Charlie Fields, Jr., 89, of Athens are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Oaklawn Memorial Park under the auspices of Henderson County Peace Officers Honor Guard. Dr. Bill Pemberton will officiate.

Charlie died March 2, 2013 in Athens.

He was born July 1, 1923 in Chandler to Charlie Lester Fields, Sr. and Mineola Shelton Fields. He married Katy Bob Barton May 10, 1945 and was Sheriff of Henderson County from 1978 until his retirement in 1986. Charlie was a member of First Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of Henderson County.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years Katy Fields, Athens; son Charlie Barton Fields, Georgetown, Kentucky; grandson Barton Anderson Fields, Honolulu, Hawaii; granddaughter Sara Alexandra Fields, Ogden, Utah and sister Betty Killeen, Athens.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Braswell and Henderson County Sheriff’s Department.

Visitation for family and friends will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.

Obituary: Carol Yvonne Hale

Carol Yvonne Hale, 71, of Kemp was born on Oct. 6, 1941 in Snyder, Texas to the home of Leonard Roy Gill and Valerie German. She passed away in Cedar Hill, Texas on March 3, 2013.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Ronald Gene Hale.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Cheryl Standridge, Rhonda Webb and husband Shawn; sisters, Ellen Jarnigan, and Eloise Gill; grandchildren, Zachary Standridge, Miranda Webb and Marissa Webb; and many other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Moorhead Epps Memorial Chapel with burial following at Mankin Cemetery, Trinidad, under the direction of Moorhead Epps Funeral Home.

Obituary: Betty Jo Surratt Bone

Graveside services and interment Betty Jo Surratt Bone, 84, of Athens are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, March 4, under the Pavilion at Post Oak Cemetery, Athens, with Rev. R.C. Bettz officiating and under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, Athens.

Mrs. Bone died Friday, March 1, 2013 at Park Highland Nursing Home, Athens.

She was a retired nurses aide that had worked numerous years at Park Highland Nursing Home.

Preceding Mrs. Bone in death is her husband Charles Bone; two sons, Philip James Bone and David Elishia Bone; son-in-law Earl Parker; and Gene McAbee.

She is survived by her daughters, Doris Parker, Dallas, Linda McAbee, Athens, Shelley Riggins, Athens, Francis Bone, Dallas; sons, Charles “Buddy” Bone and wife Ruby of Gun Barrel City, Kenneth Bone, Athens, Robbie Bone and wife Debra of Athens; numerous wonderful grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and nephews and nieces as well as a host of friends.

Obituary: Joe B. Jansen

Joe B. Jansen of Athens passed away on Feb. 28, 2013 at the age of 85. He was born on Oct. 10, 1927 in Port Neches to Arthur and Marvis Barker Jansen.

He is survived by his two daughters, Anita Jansen and husband Steven Pishki of Richmond, Va., and
Jo McGuire of Corsicana; grandchildren Kelly and Leah McCray; great-grandchild, Sofia Paris.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary Louise Jansen; brother Neil Jansen.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Huckabee/Tomlinson Funeral Home in Malakoff.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Huckabee/Tomlinson Funeral Home in Malakoff. Interment will follow at Malakoff Cemetery.
