Funeral services for Earnie “Hoot” Berry, 79, of Athens, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Lake Athens Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Curry and Rev. Bob Reid officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Earnie was born Dec. 25, 1933 to the late Robert “Bob” and Ivy Jewel Trussell Berry in Henderson County. He passed away June 12, 2013 in Athens.

A man with more friends than you can count, Earnie was a devoted family man, hard worker, and dedicated servant for Christ. He enjoyed traveling, especially into the mountains of Colorado; loved to gather with his family for food and fellowship; and appreciated God’s creation while working in the flower beds of his yard while he was able. He was very active in ministry, serving as deacon with several churches for over 40 years. Funeral Services for Tammy Suzette Smith Gonzales , 41, of Eustace are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Bois D’ Arc Baptist Church in Palestine with Pastor Mike Drinkard officiating.

Mrs. Gonzales went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 10, 2013 in Dallas.

Tammy Suzette Smith Gonzales was born March 18, 1972 in RAF Lakenheath, England the daughter of James Melvin Smith and Deborah Suzanne Felker Smith. She was a member of the Bois D’ Arc Baptist Church in Palestine and worked there part time. She was also very involved in the church and will be greatly missed by all those she touched.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather George Edward Felker; paternal grandfather William Lawrence Smith; and mother-in-law Yvonne Harris.

Obituary: Norman Elsworth Jewett

Norman Elsworth Jewett of Mabank passed away on June 9, 2013 at the age of 68.

Norman was born in Casa Grande, Ariz. on March 8,1945 to Woodrow E. and Estelle Fouse Jewett. He was a member of Aley Family Worship Center in Seven Points and was a member of the VFW in Seven Points.

He is survived by his daughters, Tammy Hoosier and Sherry Lish; grandchildren, R-Jay and Andrew Hoosier, Travis Lish, Brandy Litterell; brother-in-law, Jake K. and wife Rita Neal; sister-in-law, Joyce Neal and lots of friends and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Stella Jewett, brothers, Jack and Dean Jewett.

Services are pending at a later date under the direction of Huckabee/Tomlinson Funeral Home, Malakoff.

Ms. Smith passed away peacefully on Monday, June 10, 2013 in Palestine, Texas.

Mickey was born Nov. 5, 1930 in Dallas, Texas the daughter of Robert Horace Whitley and Pearl Perry Whitley. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Brownsboro, having been a former pastor’s wife for many years. Mickey had a love for painting and art and enjoyed gardening. She also spent countless hours knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed getting the opportunity to dance, as this was one of her favorite activities.
