Graveside services and interment for Margaret Louise Vann, 84 of Athens, formerly of Odessa are scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa with Rev. Mike Dean officiating.

Mrs. Vann passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 in Tyler.

She was born March 19, 1929 in Gene Autry, Oklahoma to Don Lacy and Anna Corinne Hutson Gilliam. Margaret was a long time resident of Odessa having spent the last twelve years residing in Athens with her family. She had many friends in both East and West Texas and enjoyed the close companionship that long term friendships afford.

Margaret was an avid reader and prided herself in skillfully working crossword puzzles. She was passionate about golf and achieved many accomplishments over the years. Margaret loved her family and was especially proud of “my girls” as she called her three daughters.
She was a faithful wife to her loving husband until his death. Her brothers and sisters remained close all of their lives. Wilma Davis, 86, a resident of Mabank, passed away on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 in Mesquite, Texas. Wilma Nell Thaxton Davis was born to Calvin and Agnes Thaxton, Nov. 18, 1926 in Florien, La.

Wilma was known for her vivacious personality and an always giving spirit. She had a keen wit and sharp sense of humor. She worked as a seamstress for many years in Dallas and was sought after for her expertise. She had a love for the Native American heritage of her husband. She deeply loved all of her pets and wildlife. Wilma was also an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints.

Wilma is survived by one son, Martin Kennedy, Jr., Gun Barrel City; one brother, Fred Thaxton, Springhill, La.; four sisters, Eva Masters, Colorado, Patsy Tarver, Waller, Texas, Wanda Chance, Garland, Texas and Edith Thaxton, Mesquite, Texas; three grandsons, Brian Kennedy, Steven Kennedy and Sean Kennedy;
three great-grandchildren, Georgia, Dakota and Jasmine; and a host of other family and friends.

Wilma was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband of 40 years, Jeff “Hoss” Davis, married on Dec. 24, 1963; parents, Calvin and Agnes Thaxton; five brothers, Berniss Thaxton, Bailey Thaxton, Elmer Thaxton, Coolidge Thaxton and Harvey Thaxton.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 at Huckabee Tomlinson Funeral Home in Malakoff.

A special thank you to Dr. Steven Whitfield and the staff of Christian Care Hospice and nurses of Acapella.

Wilma was kind, compassionate and deeply loved by many. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services for Olgia Lou Dickerson, 80, of Malakoff, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens with Pastor Larry Fondren officiating.

Ms. Dickerson went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013 in Malakoff.

Olgia Lou Chaney Dickerson was born June 30, 1933 in Martins Mill, Texas to Titus and Erma Anders Chaney. She was a member of the Landmark Baptist Church of Athens and an active member of the Women’s Sunday School Class. She enjoyed reading her Bible and gardening. Ms. Dickerson was a retired bookkeeper. She loved her grandchildren and spending time with her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Don Dickerson and one brother.

She is survived by daughters, Phyllis and husband Rick Williams of Athens, Cindy Dickerson of Greenville, Texas; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Don Williams, Craig Williams, Joshua Williams, Donald Rollins, Llake Rollins, Jimmy Rollins, Jason Salmon, Waylon Salmon and Willie Salmon.

Obituary: Barbara Ann Kinney

Barbara Ann Kinney, of Gun Barrel City, entered into eternal rest on Sept. 9, 2013 at the age of 71. Barbara was born in Fayetville, N.C. on June 28, 1942 to parents Rachel (Quick) Parker and Jack Parker. A private service was held for the family at Eubank Cedar Creek Memorial Chapel in Mabank with Rev. Jim McKee officiating.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her loving husband Fred Kinney; sons Mark Kinney and wife Mary of Kansas City, Mo., Sam Kinney and wife Melanie of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren Dakota, Justice, Will, Carol, Rachael, Samantha and Mark; sisters Sue Evans of Goody, Va., Elsie Collins of Rochester, MN, brother Bill Parker of Alexandria, La., other loving family members and many friends.

Funeral services for C. W. Harton, Jr., 86, Cross Roads are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Cross Roads with Rev. Frank Upchurch and Rev. Joe Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Post Oak Cemetery.

Mr. Harton passed away Sept. 9, 2013 at his residence.

He was born July 9, 1927 in Henderson County to the late Clinton Walker Harton, Sr. and Ethel Gertrude Wright Harton and had been a lifelong resident of Cross Roads.

C. W. had worked a 35-year tenure for Getty Oil Company retiring in 1988. He continued working for Basa Oil Company until 2011. He had served in the U S Army and was a deacon of Cross Roads Baptist Church.

C. W. was preceded in death by sisters Capitola Turlington, Naomi Cogdell and Dorothy Marie Harton.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years Lora Harton, Cross Roads; daughters Pam Cole and husband David, Kim Rogers and husband Jimmy, Lanna Meador and husband Mark, all of Cross Roads; grandchildren Tim Underhill, Krista Powell, Brendan Underhill, Brook Rohrbacker, Taylor Rogers, Cody Bass, Bailey Bass, Tiffany Sanders, Marinda Vinson, Chasiti Harris, and Shai Cole; great grandchildren Gracie, Rylie, Morgan, Ryann, Taylor, Marlay, Rhealee, Colbi, Trenton, Sammie, numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Tim Underhill, Brendan Underhill, Cody Bass, Trey Rohrbacker, Taylor Rogers, Reagan Powell. Honorary pallbearers will be Scotty Thomas, Bubba Bass, Robbie Herrington, and Jerry Turlington.

Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
