Obituary: Hubert Eugene Tindel

Hubert Eugene TindelHubert Eugene Tindel, 93, of Athens, Texas passed away January 26, 2014.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 29 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home in Athens. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 30, in Athens, Texas, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Nick Sholars and Rev. Becky Love officiating followed by a private burial service.

Mr. Tindel was born June 27, 1920, in Larue, to Maggie Buie and Paschal Eugene Tindel. He graduated from La Poynor High School in 1939 as student body President. After graduation, he moved to California and worked for the Consolidated Aircraft Company as a machinist before moving into management.

He joined the Army Air Corps in 1941 and entered flight training. He earned his pilot’s wings as a B-25 First Pilot for overseas combat in Japan. He was an honor graduate and Colonel of his Cadet class. During this time he attended Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.

After leaving the service in 1946 as a First Lieutenant, Mr. Tindel was hired by Consolidated Aircraft / General Dynamics as a Supervisor at the Fort Worth plant. He attended Texas Christian University (TCU) from 1946 to 1948, during which time he met and married Louise Durham.

He left General Dynamics in 1952 and went to work for Bell Helicopter. He started there as a Superintendent and retired in 1981 as Director of Manufacturing.

After retiring from Bell, he and Louise returned to Athens for their retirement years. During this time he continued to pursue his lifelong passion of cattle ranching, and he and Louise traveled extensively.

During his retirement years he served as President of the Virginia Hill Water Supply for 30 years, from 1982 to 2012. He also served as Director for District 13 of the Texas Rural Water Association (TRWA) from 1990 to 2008. The TRWA recognized Mr. Tindel for his sharp financial mind, keen business sense, and dedication to the association. He was also instrumental in the acquisition of TRWA’s Austin headquarters.

Mr. Tindel was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Athens and served in numerous responsible positions. He was a member of the Builders Sunday School Class. Mr. Tindel was a thirty-second degree Scottish Rite Mason and received recognition in 2011 for 65 years as a Master Mason.

He and Louise were married for 65 wonderful years. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Mr. Tindel was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Henry Milton Tindel, and his sister, Mildred Blake.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Durham Tindel, his three children, Brenda Tindel and husband Joe Algermissen, Sherry Tindel and husband John Calhoun, Mark Tindel and wife Jaimi Tindel, grandchildren, Randi Lemongello and husband John, Christina Tindel, and Kevin Tindel, great-grandchild Elizabeth Lemongello, sister, Virginia Nadine Fisher; several cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund or Builders Sunday School Class, 225 Lovers Lane, (P.O. Box 911) Athens, TX 75751, or to any charity of choice. Hubert Tindel will be missed by so many who knew and loved him.

Obituary: Ronnie Lee Sheehy

Ronnie Lee Sheehy came into this life in a rural farm house in Vernon County, Missouri June 12, 1942. Ron lived in Missouri until he graduated from high school when he started working for AT&T. He worked for AT&T 28 years and worked in or traveled through 48 of the continental United States. After his retirement Ron and his family settled in Nevada, Missouri. He became very active in Elks Lodge 564 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, both in Nevada. When Ron was not at home with family or active in Elks or Eagles he loved to hunt and fish. Several years after losing his wife, Judith to cancer, he met Linda, his current wife who lived in Texas. He moved to Texas and he and Linda were married in Athens. For the past five years they have resided in Athens. Ron and Linda enjoyed going to Professional Bull Rider shows, rodeos and the Legends of Western Swing festivals in Wichita Falls. They enjoyed his AT&T reunions and being with friends and family.

Ron departed this life on January 27, 2014.

He is survived by his wife Linda, Athens; mother Betty Sheehy, Nevada, Missouri; three children Dallas Masoner, a son in Chanute, Kansas; Roncena Irmal, a daughter in Union Town, Kansas, Valerie Jorgensen, a daughter in Bedford, Iowa; Kevin and Scott Sheehy, adopted sons, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a nephew Kenny Sheehy, Independence, Missouri, nieces Karen Lowery, Canyon Country, California, Kriss Renfro, Garden City, Missouri.

Ron’s beautiful, laughing blue eyes and gentleness of spirit will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held for Ron in the spring in Nevada, Missouri. More details will be published at a later date.

Obituary: Henry L. Shehee

Henry L. Shehee age 67 passed away in Dallas on January 25, 2014. Henry was born in Kemp on February 9, 1946 to Lee and Pauline Shehee.

He is survived by his daughters Pamela Mallow and husband Tom, Sandra Weaver and husband Johnny, Paulette Bryant and husband David. Henry is also survived by his seven grandchildren Haley, Autumn, Blake, Deavyn, Damion, Laylah, and Brooklyn.

He is preceded in death by his parents Lee and Pauline, and sister Arlone Tyson.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 29 at 2:00 PM at Huckabee-Tomlinson Funeral Home, Seven Points, TX. Bro. Wayne Pitchford will officiate the service.

Graveside services for Jimmy Barnett, 58, of Poynor, Texas are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the Poynor Cemetery.

Mr. Barnett passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014 in Tyler, Texas.

Jimmy Ray Barnett was born January 11, 1956 in Knoxville, Tennessee to Freddy Yates Barnett and Oleva Pauline Humphrey Barnett. Jimmy is an avid guitar player and loved teaching people of all ages his art. He also was an accomplished guitar and amp builder who specialized in making cigar box guitars. He loved animals especially his dogs Coalie and Cotton. Jimmy was a loving father and brother who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his daughter, Adriene Barnett of Knoxville, Tennessee; one sister, Robin Claytor and husband Chris of Frankston, Texas; one brother, Mike Barnett and wife Janie of Spring Hill, Florida; 3 step-sisters, Sheri Welsh of Knoxville, Tennessee, Karen Jackson of New Market, Tennessee, and Debra Tindell of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 6-8 p.m.. at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens, Texas.

Services were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Family.

Obituary: Nellie Opal Peery Kemp

Nellie Opal Peery Kemp was born August 24, 1914 in Purcell, Okla. to Jeffie Grace and Albert Joshua Peery.  Her mother passed away when she was one and her dad when she was four.  Nellie was taken to live with relatives when her parents died.  She grew up in Purcell where she married her high school sweetheart, Carl Woodrow Kemp on September 20, 1933.  They moved to Texas soon after the marriage.  The couple had four children; daughters Patricia and Sybil and sons Larry and Carl Jr.  The Kemp’s lived in Cleburne, Texas for 60 years.  Nellie was a housewife most of those years but worked in the retail business and retired from Zimmerman’s Auto Parts in 1982.  Mrs. Kemp was a member of First Baptist Church for 60 years and was the Junior Department Director for 20 of those years.  She helped organize the first GA’s in that church.  In 1999 the couple moved to Malakoff to be near their daughter Sybil.  Mrs. Kemp was a member of Faith Community Baptist Church where she was a faithful member until she moved to Cedar Lake Nursing Home in 2012.

She will be missed by the family she so lovingly took care of for so many years.  We will miss her cooking, loving care, and ever present smile.  But she left us with an example of what a mother and grandmother should be and a memory of her strong faith in God. 

She is preceded in death by her husband Woody of 74 years, daughter Patricia and son Larry.

The family would like to thank the staff of Cedar Lake for their care of Nellie these last few years.  She was very happy there.  We would also like to acknowledge her caregiver for seven years, Sarah.  Nellie loved much and was much loved by all who came in contact with her.

She is survived by daughter Sybil and husband Dale of Malakoff, son Woody and wife Becky of Grand Prairie and seven grandchildren Rick Carney, Renea Carney, and Nikki McDaniels, Chris Norris, Billy Norris, Jeremy Jones, and Amber Bosher and fourteen great-grandchildren, Jessica Carney, Patrick Carney, John Gilmore, Jake Gilmore, Chance Wilson, Chani Wilson, Heidi Norris, Harry Norris, Kemp Norris, William Norris, Adrian Norris, Landry Norris, Mason Bosher, and Tucker Bosher and one great-great grandchild Dylan Gilmore and many nieces and nephews and friends.

Serving as pallbearers are John Gilmore, Jake Gilmore, Chance Wilson, Patrick Carney, Jeremy Jones, Jeff Bosher.

Honorary pallbearers are Rick Carney, Richard McDaniels Chris Norris, Billy Norris, James Bass, and Kemp Norris.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 16 from 6-8 PM at Huckabee-Tomlinson Funeral Home in Malakoff.

Service will be Friday at 11 a.m., at Faith Community Baptist Church, Payne Springs with Bro. Dale Norris and Billy Norris officiating.
