Obituary: Crystal Ridenhour Wilson

Graveside services for Crystal Ridenhour Wilson, 96 of Athens are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 in Oaklawn Memorial Park with Rev. Dan England officiating.

Arrangements are with Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.

Mrs. Wilson passed away Feb. 12, 2014 in Chandler.

She was born Jan. 22, 1918 in McCurtain, Oklahoma to the late Henry Pernot and Mary Eldora Mustain Brunk. Crystal resided in Cayuga from 1940 until 1966, then moved to Athens. She was employed at Vasarette of Munsingwear, Inc. 23 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Crystal was preceded in death by her first husband Gordon Ridenhour in 1970, late husband Edward Wilson in 1987 and son Gary Ridenhour in 2002.

Survivors include her daughters Sharon Humphries, China Spring, Marilyn Hooton, College Station, 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Obituary: Virginia ‘Ginger’ Warhol

Virginia WarholA memorial services for Virginia “Ginger” Warhol, 72, of Athens is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Faulk Landrum officiating.

Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.

Mrs. Warhol passed away Monday in Athens.

She was born Feb. 26, 1941 in Temple to Thomas Bryant and Anna May Hennersdorf Morris. Ginger had been a resident of Athens 42 years. She had previously lived in Temple and Waco. She began her teaching career in Athens and spent approximately 25 years with Athens Independent School District. She then retired after seven years with Anderson County Coop as a diagnostician.

Ginger was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was an avid Bunko player and had been a part of the bunko group many years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is preceded in death by a son Jeff Warhol, brothers Tom Morris, Earl Morris, Bill Morris and Bunkley Morris.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years Bernie Warhol, Athens; daughter Patty Ayala, Mansfield; grandchildren Jisella Ayala and Alexa Ayala, Mansfield; brothers Jack Morris and wife Georgia, Temple, Richard Morris and wife Betty, Waco; sister Mary Ann Almgren and husband Kent, Fountain Valley, California; numerous nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Morris, Richard Morris, Dwayne Hallmark, Norman Black, Dr.Stuart Spitzer and Drew Douglas.

Mr. Hawkins passed away Feb. 6, 2014 in Tyler.

He was born April 15, 1932 in Kerens to the late Ira B. and Laura Mae Sloan Hawkins. After attending Kerens Public Schools Mr. Hawkins volunteered for the National Guard where he served eight years. He formerly worked at J. C. Penney ten years and Texas Utilities Electric 17 years. He had been a resident of Athens 53 years.

He was preceded in death by brothers Jimmy and Roy Glen Hawkins and sister Linda Berry.

Survivors include wife of 61 years LaVerne Hawkins, Athens, sons Ronald Hawkins and wife Rita, Livingston, Johnny Hawkins and wife Meadora, Cross Roads, Harold Hawkins and wife Lorri, Brownsboro, sister Gladys Collins, Tyler, 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Greg Hawkins, Tye Hawkins, Justin Hawkins, Tel Hawkins, Dustin Hawkins, Tee Hawkins.

Honorary pallbearers are Greg Calhoun, Matt Sims, Michael Arnold, Jerry Norvell.

Visitation for family and friends will be 5-7 PM Friday at the funeral home.

Obituary: Norma Jean Duncan

Norma Jean DuncanServices for Norma Jean Duncan, 84, will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Malakoff. Officiating will be her grandsons Chris, Ryan and Cory Tomlin. Burial will follow at Judson Cemetery under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.

Mrs. Duncan, our beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend went to be with her Creator Feb. 5, 2014 in Grand Saline.

She was born Sept. 17, 1929 in Rockdale to Dudley and Lena Currey. She graduated from Rockdale High School then moving with her parents to Cross Roads. She attended Trinity Valley Community College and was a member of their first graduating class. Norma married Lionel Duncan in August of 1948. They shared 60 years together. Her professional career spanned more than 40 years of being a secretary for several different companies. While Lionel was a student at Sam Houston, Norma worked as a secretary at the state prison. While living in Cayuga, she worked for Tidewater Oil, then Cayuga High School. She retired from Nipak Fertilizer. Norma’s love for the Lord and Christian values were evident in every aspect of her life. Her life and family were living proof of the Lord’s blessing. She was a member of Judson Baptist Church in Cayuga for many years. After Norma and Lionel decided to make their home on Cedar Creek Lake, she was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Malakoff. She taught Sunday school in the children’s department and was a member of the choir. Norma will be remembered for her beautiful voice, singing at numerous weddings and special events. Norma’s and Lionel’s favorite activity was traveling in their motorhome. There weren’t many places in the United States that they didn’t visit.

She is survived by her daughter and son in law Donna and Connie Tomlin, son and daughter in law Scott and Kathy Duncan, five grandsons, Chris and Lauren Tomlin, Ryan and Brandy Tomlin, Cory and Holly Tomlin, Jonathan Duncan and Jeffrey Duncan, six great grandchildren, Cayden, Jackson, Reagan, Emma, Will and Ashlyn, one devoted sister Rita Chapman. She leaves behind her brothers and sisters in law with whom she enjoyed many family get togethers, Weldon and Jean Duncan, Pat and Patsy Duncan, Gary and LaDonna Duncan and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to recognize one special lady who is not only kin, but one of the most loving and caring persons we know, Thelma Ann Griffin. Norma was blessed almost every weekend by Thelma’s visits. They did manicures, looked at pictures, had sweet conversation and read all the issues of Better Homes and Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Duncan, Chris Tomlin, Cory Tomlin, Ryan Tomlin, Daryl Duncan and Tommy Sellers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Allman and Robert McLain.

Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 P M Friday at the funeral home.

Benny passed away February 2, 2014 in Athens.

He was born December 12, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Albert Merritt and Sadie Frances McCutchen Rust.

Benny was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Albert Rust, James Harold Rust, Byron Fletcher Rust, Harriett Poe and husband Billie, Grace Louise Day and husband Ted, Betty Jane Terry, numerous nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years Mildred Allen Rust, Athens; daughter Beverly Vaughn & husband Tom, Ashland, Missouri; granddaughters Sherry Ann Rowland and husband Al, Frisco, Frances Rene Vaughn, Ashland, Missouri; great grandchildren Lauren Roush, Rachael Rowland, Olivia Main, Charlie Main, George Small, Vancouver, Washington, Eulalie Wernke, Las Lunas, New Mexico, Mildred Louden, Indianapolis, Indiana, Jo Rogers and husband Royall, Athens, numerous nieces and nephews.
