U.S. Air Force Airman Griselda A. Garcia graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Garcia is a 2016 graduate of Athens High School, Athens, Texas.

Military News: Dakota W. Stone

U.S. Air Force Airman Dakota W. Stone graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Stone is the son of Linda M. Nickell of Athens and Tony W. Stone of Euless, Texas.

He is a 2017 graduate of Athens High School.

U.S. Air Force Airman Aijioun J. Dixon-Thomas graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Dixon-Thomas is the son of Tanisha Thomas A. Thomas of Malakoff.

He is a 2016 graduate of Malakoff High School, Malakoff.

Obituary: Charlie Thomas Burnette

Charlie Thomas Burnette, 86, of Trinidad, passed away on April 8, 2017 in Dallas. He was born on July 29, 1930 to A.C. Burnette and Evelyn Averett Burnette in Salem, NC.

Charlie joined the US Navy on Aug 6, 1947. He spent four years in the Navy serving on the USS Pasadena, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, and China Service Medal.

Charlie was married to the love of his life and soul mate Lillian Gene Moore for 50 years before her passing. Together they raised three wonderful children.
