The Gun Barrel City Rainbow Girls held a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser at the Cedar Creek Lake Masonic Lodge in Gun Barrel City on Saturday, March 17. They wish to thank everyone for their support as they raise funds to attend their annual conference Grand Assembly in June.

Rainbow Girls participate in a wide array of activities, including leadership training, service projects, competitions, and annual retreats. Along the way, they gather invaluable life skills that help them become the best daughter, sister, student, and friend they can be. Nothing works in communications without an antenna, your cordless phone, even your cellphone have internal antennas that reach their target. Without antennas their signal would go nowhere, if you are interested in radio communication learn more here from an article at one of the finest installers website.

So it is with ham or amateur radio. Hams need antennas to reach their target as well. There are literally thousands of choices and that’s the subject of the next meeting of the Cedar Creek Amateur Radio Club. There the virtues of the end-fed antenna will be illustrated. You only need one support to hold it up. Most wire antennas require at least two support points. The antenna can also be shorter and lighter than many other types.

The Cedar Creek Lake Rotary Club donated $15,000 to the Trinity Valley Community College Foundation Friday, February 16 to establish a new scholarship fund for Kemp, Mabank, Eustace and Malakoff high school graduates to attend TVCC.

HCMGA Presentation: Learn How to Grow a Cutting Garden

Henderson County Master Gardener Association (HCMGA) will host Shirley Niswonger of Shirley Nice Flowers on Tuesday, February 20, 5:30 p.m. at the Clint W. Murchison Memorial Library, 121 S. Prairieville, Athens. Niswonger will present “Growing a Cutting Garden”. This free presentation is open to the public.

Niswonger began her floral design career with training from the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx, obtaining her floral design certificate in 2001. Before moving to Texas in 2012, she designed flowers for weddings and other events in California.

Cedar Creek Amateur Radio Club to discuss Echolink

Amateur or ham radio is known for short-wave communications around the Earth and that’s an important and fun aspect of the hobby, but technology marches on. Today, licensed ham radio operators can put an app on their tablet or phone and connect to almost anywhere on the planet.

The service is called Echolink and the numbers are amazing. There are more than 200,000 validated users worldwide — in 151 of the world’s 193 nations — with about 6,000 online at any given time.

Echolink is the topic of the next meeting of the Cedar Creek Amateur (ham) Radio Club. One of our repeater stations features Echolink and we’re going to show you how easy and fun it is to use.
