ACPA schedules annual Father-Daughter Ball

Athens Christian Preparatory’s annual Father-Daughter Ball is scheduled for Feb. 27, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Cain Center. This is the 8th year for this event hosted by the school for Athens and the surrounding communities.

“We began this project in 2009 because we wanted to do something for the community. We liked the idea of celebrating the special relationship between fathers and daughters. The event has grown every year with 2015 being our largest crowd yet,” said Teresa DeMay, Head of School for ACPA.

Celebration on the Lake Church gets new pastor

The Congregation of Celebration on the Lake Church unanimously elected Mary Clair Lowence as its new pastor. She begins her pastorate immediately and will be formerly installed in a worship and celebration service Nov. 29.

Ever since she was 12 years old, Mary Clair wanted to be a minister. And for the past 27 years, she has been involved in ministry. She has served as pastor of small churches and large churches. She has been minister to older adults, youth and children. She has directed pastoral care and congregational life. Her ministry has also included being a hospice chaplain. The First United Methodist Church of Mabank will celebrate its 20th annual Lord’s Acre Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the church, located at 501 South Third Street in Mabank. The Lord’s Acre Festival, named for the custom of farmers years ago who would dedicate an acre of land to the Lord and bring the produce raised on that acre to sell at a festival, has become a successful fundraiser that supports the church’s ministry to the youth of the Cedar Creek Lake area. On Sunday, Aug. 23, Johnson Chapel AME Church in Malakoff celebrated its 118th Homecoming service. The church community of Malakoff, members of the Abe Johnson family, and former pastors and members of the church came home to worship in the afternoon service.
