Litter Box to reopen

The Litter Box in Athens will celebrate its grand reopening Saturday, Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Litter Box is a resale shop located at 303 N. Prairieville St. in Athens that funds the Henderson County Humane Society.

The Litter Box now features two areas for shopping: The first is a “$5 fill a bag” area that is filled with bargains; the second is the Treasure Area, with individually priced items of higher quality.

If you have items that you would like to donate to the Litter Box for sale to support the Humane Society, please call 903-675-1699. Organizers will work with you to get the items picked up.

A new shipment of all sizes of Pink Out Athens tees came in today! Be sure to stop by Island Tans or the Athens Fire Station and pick one up. They are only $10 and support the Athens Professional Fire Fighters Association. Pink Out Athens 2013 is Friday, Oct. 25!

Sophia’s Journey sets fundraiser

Eustace resident Reba Bailey has started an organization called Sophia’s Journey to raise money to help a private Christian school, the Kingstar School, in Tanzania, Africa. She worked there this past summer while on a mission trip.

Her organization will be holding its first fundraiser, a miniature golf tournament, at Whatz Up in Seven Points on Saturday, Oct. 5. The cost is $20. Registration will begin at 7 and tournament will begin at 8. Hole sponsorships can be purchased for $20.

The Friends of the Animals biggest fundraising project of the year, the Pampered Pets calendar, is now available for sale. Purchase of this beautiful calendar ($10) enables the doors to stay open at the low-cost spay/neuter clinic.

It may be purchased at the following locations:

PWC garage sale offers a Mickey Mouse Christmas

The Pinnacle Women’s Club has received several Disney Mickey Mouse Christmas decorations which were donated for the annual PWC Garage Sale.

PWC President Gail Fankhauser said, “Some lucky children are going to have bright eyes and happy smiles when they see these fun decorations at their home.”

Included are a Mickey Mouse Street Light, Mickey-Ears wreaths and candy canes with stakes. Everything is lighted and can be used inside or outside.

PWC Treasurer Marlene Ungarean added, “Lots of other wonderful bargains will be available, especially furniture. We have more furniture than usual this year.”

In addition to Holiday Décor and Home Decor, there will be sections for Ladies’ Boutique, jewelry, linens, Kids’ Room, Library, electronics, sportswear, housewares and clothing for the entire family.

The sale will be held on Thursday, Oct. 10 and Friday, Oct. 11 at the Mabank Pavilion. The hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday. All proceeds go to local charities and college scholarships.
