The Friends of the Animals biggest fundraising project of the year, the Pampered Pets calendar, is now available for sale. Purchase of this beautiful calendar ($10) enables the doors to stay open at the low-cost spay/neuter clinic.

It may be purchased at the following locations:

  • Flair Publishing 814 Main St. Gun Barrel City (next door to Cochran’s Cafeteria) Monday-Friday.
  • CCL Chamber of Commerce office on highway 198 in Mabank Monday-Friday.
  • Syler Veterinary Clinic across from the hospital in Athens Monday-Friday.
  • McDade’s Nursery highway 274 – Tool.
  • Friends of the Animals Spay Neuter Clinic in Gun Barrel City any Tuesday.

Bulldog report from the Eustace Booster Club

On Tuesday Varsity Volleyball beat Hampton Prep. Way to go Lady Dogs!
(JV and Freshman – no game)

On Friday Varsity and JV Volleyball teams beat Faith Family! And the Lady Dogs are now 4-0 in district play.
(Freshman – no game)

Varsity and JV Football fell a little short to Rusk, but put up a hard fight.

Cross Country competed at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie, which is the new Region II site the year.
Varsity CC Girls placed 9th out of 24 teams. Varsity Boys CC placed 4th out of 27 teams. (Mark Zimmer placed 4th out of 208 individuals). Way to Go Mark! JV Boys CC placed 9th.

PWC garage sale offers a Mickey Mouse Christmas

The Pinnacle Women’s Club has received several Disney Mickey Mouse Christmas decorations which were donated for the annual PWC Garage Sale.

PWC President Gail Fankhauser said, “Some lucky children are going to have bright eyes and happy smiles when they see these fun decorations at their home.”

Included are a Mickey Mouse Street Light, Mickey-Ears wreaths and candy canes with stakes. Everything is lighted and can be used inside or outside.

PWC Treasurer Marlene Ungarean added, “Lots of other wonderful bargains will be available, especially furniture. We have more furniture than usual this year.”

In addition to Holiday Décor and Home Decor, there will be sections for Ladies’ Boutique, jewelry, linens, Kids’ Room, Library, electronics, sportswear, housewares and clothing for the entire family.

The sale will be held on Thursday, Oct. 10 and Friday, Oct. 11 at the Mabank Pavilion. The hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday. All proceeds go to local charities and college scholarships.

Republican T. J. Fabby has announced his candidacy for State Representative in House District 10. Fabby is seeking to replace Jim Pitts, who recently announced his retirement from the Texas House.

“The majority of residents across Ellis and Henderson counties support the idea of limited government, and I wholeheartedly agree. That is why I have spent the past six years of my life working hard as a conservative political activist trying to promote the principles of liberty locally as well as in Austin. Angels in Tropical Shirts scheduled

The weekend of Sept. 21-22, the Cedar Creek Lake Parrot Head Club and is hosting a Cancer Benefit and Trop-Rock Music Festival called Angels in Tropical Shirts benefiting The Mary Crowley Cancer Research Center. This year’s Angels in Tropical Shirts is in honor of Ben Wynne, a longtime Parrot Head and friend who recently lost his battle with cancer.

Angels in Tropical Shirts has raised money for various cancer related charities for four years and was founded by Anita and Kelly Brown after Anita lost her mother and brother to cancer within the same year. This benefit has been held in Kemah, Texas and Lake Charles, Louisiana. The last event was at Cedar Creek Lake and will be here again this year.

The Angels in Tropical Shirts Cancer Benefit and Trop-Rock Music Festival starts on Saturday, Sept. 21, the music festival is from 4 p.m. until 11 p.m. upstairs at The Banquet Hall at Whatz Up. There will be over six artists and bands performing throughout the day that are donating their time and talent to this event. Great Trop-Rock Artists such as Lucky Boyd, Scotty Lee Shuffield, Don Burke, Larry Penny, Kelly Brown and The Bad Monkeys will perform.

Saturday, the event will not only feature great entertainment but will also have raffles, live and silent auctions, door prizes and plenty of surprises to entertain the crowd.
