Kendall Sanders visits Athens Hornets on eve of Regional series

I was so excited that I got the chance to sit this week and chat very briefly with my own “little superstars” called the Athens Hornets baseball team and Head Coach Dallas Robertson.

As you all may know already, they are on the road to the regional quarterfinals. Up next is an opponent that happens to be the defending state champions: Pleasant Grove. After coming off an exciting comeback Saturday afternoon in game 3, Athens sent home the Crandall Pirates in a 13-10 area round series win.

The team will be playing at Northeast Texas Community College in Mount Pleasant Friday at 7 p.m. Game 2 is at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Game 3 is 30 minutes after if needed.

Hardin competes at triathlon

Allison Hardin competed last weekend in Cypress for Athens High School at the Texas High School Triathlon Championships. Her AHS swim coach Caroline Maxvill took her. She placed 7th overall competing against 9-12th graders. It consisted of a 500 meter swim, 14 mile bike and 3 mile run. (COURTESY PHOTO)

KAB Anniversary: The Margaret Myers Award winners

Don’t forget that Keep Athens Beautiful will be celebrating its 25th anniversary this week.

KAB will be hosting a banquet dinner at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 17 at the Athens Country Club in celebration. In addition to the anniversary hoopla, KAB will also be giving out its annual awards, like the Margaret Myers Award to the top volunteer.

Med-Logics coming to Athens

The Athens Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors and Athens Mayor Jerry Vaught announced today that Med-Logics, Inc. will be opening a new facility in Athens. Med-Logics, Inc., is a manufacturer of state-of-the-art medical devices used in Lasik, Dsaek, and Cataract surgeries.

Med-Logics intends to break ground on their facility in June. The Athens facility will become Med-Logics new corporate and manufacturing home for the company. Med-Logics will be moving from its location in Laguna Hills, Calif. and will employ 20 people initially and will make over $1 million investment in the new Athens facility. Med-Logics plans to be operational this November. They will build their facility on a four acre site in the Athens Industrial Park.
