Almost seven minutes into their Region XIV Conference opener at home Saturday afternoon against Angelina College, things did not look good for the Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals. They trailed 24-7, having spotted the Roadrunners an early 11-0 advantage.

But the view was a lot better by game’s end with fourth-year head coach Kris Baumann’s 11th-ranked Cardinals owning a 100-82 win.

The Cardinals fought back from the slow start to lead 42-41 after a wide-open first half and went on to run away from the Roadrunners in the final 20 minutes.

The win improved the Cardinals to 8-1 on the season heading into a week on the road. Tuesday, the Cardinals go to Brenham to face Blinn at 7:30 p.m. They will leave immediately at the game for classic action Thursday-Saturday in Pensacola, Fla.
Freshman Josh Stamps led the Cardinals in their comeback with 26 points, including five three-pointers. Sophomore J.C. Washington also came up big with 23 points. He also had a team-high nine rebounds.

Stamps and Washington were led in double figures by Hyron Edwards with 16 and Josh Robinson and Stephen Edwards with 12 each.
The Cardinals were 23-of-32 from the free throw line with Hyron Edwards hitting 10-of-10.

Angelina was led by Corinthian Ramsey’s 31 points.

The Cardinals’ next home game is Wednesday, Dec. 2, against San Jacinto at 7:30 p.m.
